Each year, EIF awards scholarships to individuals who are exploring the study of exhibition management with the end goal of advancing their careers in this field.

The Helen Brett scholarship was established by Mr. Robert Kolinek, CEM, CMP and named for his grandmother, Helen Brett, who was a pioneer in the tradeshow industry. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist individuals who are exploring the study of exhibition management with the end goal of advancing their career in this field. The scholarship serves to promote the exhibitions and events industry by attracting college level students into the field of study and encouraging their pursuit with financial support. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis based on field of study, recommendations and educational achievement. Preference will be given to those expressing an interest in the exhibition management industry field and those enrolled in degree programs which are viewed as particularly relevant to this field. There may be up to four scholarships awarded.

"My grandmother, Helen Brett, was one of the first female trade show organizers in the industry.  As a third generation family business owner I am very proud to continue her legacy through awarding scholarships to those who share my grandmother’s passion for trade shows."

- Robert Kolinek, President & CEO, Helen Brett Enterprises

Helen Brett Scholarship Criteria

The Scholarship Program has the following characteristics and guidelines:

  1. Students attending any accredited college, university or junior college will be eligible for scholarship assistance.
  2. Eligible scholarship candidates must currently have at least a 3.0 grade point average (or its equivalent) at whatever institution they are currently enrolled in. Recommendations from instructors will also be considered.
  3. Among otherwise equal applicants, preference will be given to those expressing an interest in the exhibition management industry field and those enrolled in degree programs which are viewed as particularly relevant to this field. The rationale for this preference is to encourage the development of young, qualified exhibition management professionals and to create a greater academic awareness of this field.
  4. A student who is selected will receive up to $5,000 in a cash scholarship as tuition assistance. In addition, scholarship recipients will be considered as potential candidates to have an internship experience at the IAEE annual convention in December and/or at one of IAEE members’ shows.
  5. A Selection Committee will review and rate the applications, and scholarship awards will be based solely on those ratings. The Selection Committee will consist of current EIF Board Members and their designees who will be appointed by the Chairman of the Foundation.
  6. The availability of scholarships is announced directly to educational institutions.
  7. Completed applications, including college transcripts and other required materials, must be received by the Foundation headquarters no later than 1 July. Applicants will be notified in writing of the decision of the Selection Committee no later than 1 September.
